Tasked with keeping the official church records for the Church of Christ (1830), the Church Historian and General Church Recorder served as clerks, scribes, and secretaries in recording "minutes of meetings, patriarchal blessings, membership information, and certificates of priesthood authority", as well as "what might be called a narrative history of the Church."[1] The position continues in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a priesthood calling, now the Church Historian and Recorder. He is helped by Assistant Church Historians, although the title was expanded in 2008 to be Assistant Church Historian and Recorder.[2]
